Surface Applied Grounding Anodes

Low-solubility Surface Applied Grounding Anodes are widely used in aggressive soils. Grounding Anodes are horizontally or vertically put into the trenches or wells. Carbonaceous backfill KMA is used to fill the neighboring space. This backfill reduces the resistance to anodic ground current spreading and decreases the anode’s dissolution rate. Grounding Anode Installation depends on the cathodic protection system design which indicates the number of the grounding anodes, distance between them, their arrangement. In the earth circuit the device is connected to power cable in test station with the mains cable. Thermite welding (TW) or cable clamps (CC) are used to connect anodic cables to the mains cable. The cables can also be connected with cable shoes (CS) or a combined connection method – CC+CS, TW+CS.

Design of Surface Applied Grounding Anode

The anode is a tube electrode. 2-10 m long connecting cable is attached to the electrode. Polymer resin composition is used to insulate the contact assembly of the electrode with the cable. Cable output is insulated additionally with a heat shrink sleeve.

Types of Surface Applied Grounding Anodes

• Low-solubility Surface Grounding Anodes МRP and МRPK (assembled, supplied with a case with carbonaceous backfill) are characterized by the anodic dissolution rate of max 0.01 g/(А*year).
• Surface Applied Magnetite Grounding Anodes МТ and МТК (assembled) employ unique properties of magnetite with low anode dissolution rate: 0.01— 0.04 kg/(А*year).
• Ferrosilid Grounding Anodes ММ and МК (assembled) have electrode substance dissolution rate of 0.3 — 0.5 kg/(А*year).
